IC Toniolo School is an old historical school of Pisa students and has become a Comprehensive Institute since 2001. It is one of the biggest Comprehensive Institute with 850 pupils and Includes 2 nursery schools, 4 primary schools and two middle schools. The buildings of the schools are in two different parts of Pisa: one is central, the other is in a north-western suburb of Pisa, therefore pupils come from different social contexts. The percentage of immigrants also varies according to the location of the single school but mainly are from the Philippines, Romania, Albania, Bangladesh and China. Enriching and cultural opportunities organised by the school are offered to all pupils because integration and inclusion at any level is one of the core of Italian education. All over the years, and thanks to all European projects carried out, IC Toniolo school has gained a long experience in Erasmus projects and on continuing enforcing professional relationships with partners they have collaborated well with for years. In particularly, with the Erasmus project “A digital journey in Europe” since 2014, IC Toniolo has widened its educational and technological offer to its pupils despite all challenges. IC Toniolo started its digital journey including technology in some curricular activities, improving its technological equipment step by step. Thanks to JDO project other great opportunities have been offered to our pupils and our teachers as well. In all school we have been using G-suite for Education and google apps since 2014 but we are still working on the Digital Curriculum to implement it into daily basis activities. In October our school participates to the Codeweek as well, a local program in the territory to develop student’s abilities in basic computer programming and every year we have a cyberbullying” or a “safe internet” week at school where teachers do special works with pupils to increase their awareness on this topic. At the moment IC Toniolo is partner in the Erasmus+ “Unity” based on implementing interdisciplinary (STEM) Lessons Plans about climate change using PBL methods, affiliated school in the Erasmus+ “SHELFIE” whose aim it to provide online resources, tools to schools to improve their digitalization standard tested with the EU SELFIE self-evaluation tool. Aside from the digital, IC Toniolo has a strong and long tradition in music. Since 2020 we have implemented a musical experimental curriculum in a primary school and a middle school of the Institute; pupils do extra lessons of music and learn to play a wide range of instruments. “Foreign Languages” is another area where our school continues to focus on. As a Centre of Preparation for Cambridge Exams, we organize for our students English afternoon courses and make them participate to students’ exchanges, international projects in order to improve their English or French or Spanish (the languages our students study). Taking part to international projects is one of the main objective of the school because it allows pupils to develop their skills, to improve their competence in a foreign language, to make comparisons with other culture and learn to become open-minded and respectful European citizens. Other aims are: To define and prioritize the objectives related to the improvement of our students’ awareness about changes of climate and all goals of the Agenda 2030; To promote the collaboration and joint work of the teaching staff; To promote and incentive teachers’ training on the use of new teaching methods; To develop and enhance students’ 21st century competences through participating in local, national and international projects; To integrate digital in teaching on daily basis; To allow all students (included disabled and children with special needs) to participate to all projects promoted by the school. Cristina Morelli is an English teacher and Deputy Principal of IC Toniolo school responsible of coordinating all international projects for over 10 years

Grundskoleförvaltningens Digitaliseringsenhet is working on developing ICT as a tool for higher goal fulfillment and increasing inclusion for Malmö’s school students, increasing equality and social sustainability by developing the students’ digital skills. This is for instance being done by workshops for the teachers, support to school leaders and ICT- teachers at all the schools. These workshops vary a lot in subjects such as GDPR, InfoMentor, Google for Education, assistive technology, coding, working with robots, 3D-printers and MIL (Media and Information Literacy). The subjects depends on what data the self evaluation survey has surfaced. Since participating in the Digital Schools of Europe KA2 strategic partnership the city of Malmö has been working hard in finding our own self evaluation system based on both the DSoD and the DSoE self evaluation systems. We have come a long way in this work and all 77 schools are currently in their unique process working on digitalizing their school. Our digital self evaluation system is working and has helped our schools in structuring their work but it can be improved. This year we certified three schools as digital schools with an award for the first time. We are continuously working to certify all schools.

Primary school Glina is situated 70 kilometers from Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. We have 454 students from 6 to 14 years of age. We have a main school building and one smaller school for students from 6 to 10 years in Maja (7 km from Glina). All together there are 29 classes in our school. The majority of our students live in Glina, but 120 students live in rural parts of the town. They have to travel every day to school and back. Our school is situated in part of Croatia that has a status of ”Area of Special State Concern”. This is because the territory of our town was strongly destroyed during the war period and because a lot of our parents don’t work and they receive social welfare. In our school we have students of different nationalities and religions. Also at the moment we have 45 students with special needs. Our school has 80 employees of which 55 are teachers. 13 of them work as primary school teachers with children from 6 to 10 years of age and the rest are subject teachers for students from 11 to 14 years of age. In their work they always try to use new teaching methods and in that way make a teaching process more interesting to students. Also we are an International Eco school and that is why this project is so interesting to us because we feel we can learn a lot from your schools to become more efficient in our everyday work, share experience and knowledge with european colleagues and improve our work. The main beneficiaries of that process will be the students gaining new knowledge about the topic. Teachers need a lifelong learning process and cooperating among each other and sharing experience sometimes is the best way. For the past 5 years our school has been involved in the JDO Foundation Global Collaboration Programme where our students and teachers work with schools from Europe and the USA. Schools combine their curriculums in different areas like STEM and using technologies students collaborate on different topics. Our school tries to involve as much as possible new technologies in everyday teaching making the learning process easier and more interesting for the students.
